Get Involved in Local, Scientific Research by Participating in the Annual Butterfly Count
Join us for our 3rd annual Butterfly Count at Edison and Ford Winter Estates on Monday, June 10th!
The Edison and Ford Winter Estates will participate in the North American Butterfly Association's Annual Butterfly Count. We need volunteers to help us complete the survey, and we hope that you'll consider helping us in the field!
No butterfly experience is necessary. Spotting groups will be a mix of beginners and advanced butterfly enthusiasts and those with less experience can help out by recording data or taking photos. Consider joining our local butterfly identification group to help practice your skills before the big day.
The North American Butterfly Association has run the Butterfly Count Program in the United States, Canada, and Mexico since 1993. Each of the approximately 450 counts consist of a compilation of all butterflies observed at sites within a 15-mile diameter count circle in a one-day period.
The annually published reports provide a tremendous amount of information about the geographical distribution and relative population sizes of the species counted. Comparisons of the results across years can be used to monitor changes in butterfly populations and study the effects of weather and habitat change on North American butterflies. We hope that you lend a helping hand on Monday!
At Channelside Apartments in Fort Myers, Florida, it is clear that we have it all, but we still feel obliged to inform you of all the events our community has scheduled. Please feel free to join in all of the fun during this premier event!
